Comment on Best Social Media Manager Shorty Industry Award Nomination by Ralph Hightower

I wholeheartedly concur with @shortyawards nomination as Social Media Manager. @NASATweetup takes Tweetups to a higher standard.

Tweetup (def): A Tweetup is an informal meeting of people who use the social messaging medium Twitter

@NASATweetup has prepared agendas with speakers and presentations with Q&A for the events.

I wanted to be part of one of the Tweetups for a Space Shuttle launch. I made it to the waiting list for the Final Space Shuttle Mission (STS-135); I didn't move up to be there at the countdown clock. But Stephanie (@schierholz) pulled out all the stops and organized NASA's first and only Tweetup for a Space Shuttle landing (STS-135).

I was there for @NASATweetup/sts-135-landing, just 200 yards from the Shuttle Landing Facility's runway, right next to the Control Tower. It was incredible! I've watched countless Shuttle landings on TV and the Shuttle's twin sonic booms announcing her return to Earth sounds like a muffled "BOOM! BOOM!" Being there, hearing the twin sonic booms, it sounds more like gunshots "BANG! BANG!"

I always expected that I would see a Space Shuttle launch. But never, ever, in my wildest dreams did I expect to see a Space Shuttle land!

Thank you Stephanie for making it happen!

I also see space becoming more accessible to everyday citizens as 2.o, like weather balloons and "pong sat" experiments. Even satellite building is getting common.

Great post Remco; thanks for the detailed description of the experience. I was also surprised when I read that you organized the trip yourselves. I used to think that you went as part of the reporters contingent. Keep up the posting ;)

Hi eric. I looked for you on Google+ but wasn't sure which one you are. Perhaps that's one disadvantage of G+ since @Twitter is unique.
